Mari Endo (Cello)
Mari Endo was born in Kanagawa and started cello at the age of three. Endo graduated
from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and received master’s degree from
Salzburg Mozarteum University with a first-class honors degree. She got scholarships from
the Meiji Yasuda Cultural Foundation in 2005 and the Rohm Music Foundation in 2006-
2008.
Endo was the winner at the 72nd Annual Japan Music Competition in 2003, receiving
the Tokunaga award as well as the first prize. She also got the 3rd prize at Prague
Spring International Music Competition in 2006, and the 2nd prize at the Enrico Mainardi
competition in 2008. Endo was commended by Kanagawa prefecture for her great
achievement. She also received Hideo Saito memorial fund award in 2009.
In recent years, Endo has widened her appeal overseas; including concerts with Prague
Symphony Orchestra, and Vienna Chamber Orchestra. In 2010, she played the theme
song for ‘Ryomaden-Kiko’ in the NHK period drama. Endo have released three solo CDs
including ‘Cello Melodies’ and trio album ‘RAVEL’ with Tamaki Kawakubo (Vn.) and Yurie
Miura (Pf.) from Avex-classics. Mari Endo is one of the most promising young cellist inJapan.
